Another new number one? A little help, I can't keep up!
I jest, of course. This week's number one is last week's number four, Luis Fonsi, Daddy Yankee & Justin Bieber's Despacito, making it the first foreign language number one since the execrable Gangnam Style by PSY, the first Spanish language record to top the charts since the excellent We No Speak Americano by DCup & Yolanda Be Cool, and Fonsi and Yankee the first Puerto Rican to top the charts since Ricky Martin's Livin' La Vida Loca. It would appear you can bung Bieber on any old bunkum and top the charts. Three new records to our catchment area: Slow Hands by Niall Horan, Mama by Jonas Blue & William Singe and iSpy by Kyle and Lil Yachty.
That Eric Clapton's enjoying a bit of a revival isn't he? First he goes top ten as the guitarist on Ed Sheeran's Dive, though admittedly that only got there after it was featured on an album. And now, under his nickname Slow Hands, he's the subject of a #25 entry by Niall Horan (not really), a bluesy stomper of a record with rambunctious lyrics. It is hard to believe this is the same person who sung This Town, as it's so much more upbeat and, better, better. Good luck.
At #29 this week is Jonas Blue's Mama featuring William Singe. Blue is his usual catchy self, while Singe's vocals fit the track perfectly; it's as bouncy as any of his previous tracks. It's certainly better than his insidious Fast Car cover, put it that way. However, there's a particular sensation of ennui I get from listening to the record and I don't know why. I can't fault anything in it, but there's something about it I can't quite put a finger on. Oh well, better luck next time.
I had a horrible feeling I was going to have to review this; iSpy by Kyle & Lil Yachty is in our catchment area at #40. Everything Yachty touches turns to mold, and his verse here is no exception; autotune is only any good if the person can actually sing. Kyle's verses aren't much less inane, either, plus the keyboards on the track are quite off-putting as well. Steer well clear.
I have resisted using CSS to code this site for quite some time. I believe that it is too complicated for learner coders to learn, and goes against the principles of the Open Source Initiative (you're lying to those wishing to learn from your site, you're saying one bit of code does one thing when it might do something else). However, I have recently discovered a piece of software called Microsoft Expression Web, and it allows you to highlight a group of cells rather than have to insert everything manually, and the time saved doing that is worth the hassle.
